When this movie was originally released, I was going through a phase where I didn't like movies that would scare me. I'm not sure what I was afraid of, because it definitely wasn't scary. I wouldn't even classify this as a thriller (although IMDb feels differently). It was pure drama.
Watching Diane Lane's character get sucked into her affair was mesmorizing, even though you knew it was going to happen. The tension in the scenes with Olivier Martinez before she sleeps with him was palpable and they both played it beautifully.
Two other scenes stand out:
When Richard Gere is at Martinez's apartment. The back-and-forth between the two characters in that scene was fantastic. The scene at Diane and Richard's house when the snowglobe is discovered... there is that moment when he knows that she knows... and she knows that he knows. Very, very well done. When you can convey something so big without saying a single word, it's brilliant movie-making.I don't know that I'm thrilled with the ending. But I'm quite glad I got out of that fear phase. LOL.
You know. I've never seen this movie. I need to add it to my netflix queue. Sounds intriguing.
