Bradley Coopers's character had a great quote... "I don't have delusions of grandeur. I have an actual recipe for grandeur."
Unfortunately, as far as the movie is concerned, the recipe was missing a few key ingredients.
What went right went very, very right... Bradley Cooper rocks my world. And he also narrated, so not only did I get to look at him, but I really like his voice. It's kind of soothing.
And there were some incredible filming techniques that I've never seen done before. At times it had a "you are there" type thing going for it, albeit in super speed. And I really liked the way they did the opening credits.
And I love sci-fi. But just because it's science fiction doesn't mean I should have to completely suspend all disbelief.
The premise was awesome... the plot, not so much. And there were things that were never resolved and the last fifteen minutes of the movie confused me so badly I had to read a spoiler site to figure out what was going on. I admit it... I like movies that have a nice, clean ending. This wasn't as ambiguous as a Coen brothers ending, but it still bugged me.
There were also moments when I expected Chuck Bartowski to show up in a scene, because some of it was very "intersect-y". No, that's not a word. But it's a science fiction movie. I'm allowed to make stuff up as long as it's believable ;)
The good news is that Bradley Cooper can totally carry a movie. And he went up against Robert DeNiro with excellent results. And really, what more can we ask for?
