I've been waiting MONTHS to see this movie!! I read the book earlier this year after many recommendations and I really enjoyed it. So I've been anxiously waiting for this to hit the cheap theater and it finally showed up there today.
I thought this was an excellent adaptation of Sara Gruen's novel. I knew of the movie as I was reading the book, so in my head the characters had faces... what I was curious about was how the movie would handle certain aspects of the book and I think they did a great job.
Luckily, the animal abuse was played down in the movie. I was really worried about how that was going to be portrayed and how I would handle it. It wasn't as bad as I anticipated. It wasn't quite as sad as the book, either.
I'm going to go ahead and wonder if Hal Holbrook might be Oscar-nommed again this year for a very small part. I love that man. It's too bad Rosie the elephant isn't eligible. She was easily the star of the show!
I really had no desire to watch this previously. I know next to nothing about it other than it having Reese Witherspoon and that sparkly vampire in it. Is it a romantic period drama?
ReplyDeleteIt's a period drama and there is a bit of romance, but that's not the main subject. It's mainly about a circus train. I actually really liked Robert Pattinson in this.
ReplyDeleteHmm ok I may give it a whirl then. I'm not really a fan of romcoms. But this sounds promising.
